Beamly and Gusto can both help employers manage California harassment prevention training, but they approach the problem from different directions.

Beamly focuses on assignments, employee-specific progress and dates, reminders, completion evidence and records, status review, and audit-oriented activity. The key question is whether Gusto Learning is sufficient when employees already live in Gusto or a dedicated California SHPT workflow is preferable.

Gusto has a native compliance-training product

Gusto provides paid course content

All Gusto plans can access its compliance courses, but each course is individually priced and course fees appear on the employer's monthly invoice. Gusto charges for participants once they start. See Gusto's course and billing documentation.

California provides free online supervisor and nonsupervisor harassment-prevention courses, and state law permits employers to direct employees to them. See Government Code §12950.1 and CRD's courses.

Gusto Learning sells the course inside Gusto. Beamly can manage a workflow around California's free course.

Gusto supports enrollment, deadlines, and reminders

Administrators choose a course and team members, enter a deadline, then purchase and assign the training. Employees receive an email and a Gusto dashboard notification. If a participant misses the deadline, the course becomes overdue and reminders continue. See the administrator workflow.

Gusto also saves learner progress, so participants can resume later. See the employee guide. Beamly likewise addresses employee-specific dates, status, and reminders. The meaningful distinction is whether the workflow belongs inside payroll and HR or inside a focused California product.

Gusto stores downloadable certificates

Employees can download completion certificates inside their Gusto accounts, and administrators can review completed courses and download certificates. See Gusto's learner instructions and administrator instructions.

CRD says it does not retain or track the certificates generated by its free training. See CRD's employer FAQ. Employers using that course need their own evidence process, which is the workflow Beamly is designed around.

Gusto already knows who your employees are

If you use Gusto for payroll, the platform already contains the employee population used for training enrollment. That reduces duplicate roster maintenance. Beamly does not claim to replace payroll or the broader employee system of record.

Platform pricing and course pricing are separate

As reviewed on August 21, 2026, Gusto lists Simple at $49 per month plus $6 per person, Plus at $80 plus $12 per person, and Premium at $180 plus $22 per person. See Gusto's current pricing.

Those are payroll and HR platform prices. Gusto's Learning documentation says each course has its own price, but the public sources reviewed do not state one universal California harassment prevention training price. Confirm the per-participant course price inside Gusto before comparing total cost.

If you already pay for Gusto payroll, compare the incremental Gusto Learning cost and workflow with Beamly—not the entire Gusto subscription with Beamly. If you do not use Gusto, adopting payroll and HR mainly for harassment prevention training is a different decision.
